Product Description New for 2006, the Babolat Pure Drive Roddick is a slightly heavier update to the legendary Babolat Pure Drive Team. Meant to more closely replicate the weight of Andy's racquet, the Pure Drive Roddick provides a little more stiffness and power, provided you are able to handle the additional weight. Still categorized as a tweener (between powerful/controlled), the Pure Drive Roddick should retain its appeal to a wide array of players. Works well at the net (though not quite as maneuverable), as well as the baseline. Babolat also makes use of a new vibration dampening material called Cortex placed at the top of the handle and acts as an active dampener, without sacrificing feel.Racquet Specifications- Headsize: 100 sq. in.

| Customer Reviews: Well balanced, but lacking in feel. September 9, 2009 Tigerbalm (Renton, WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just finished playing with the BABOLAT PURE DRIVE model today. This is Roddick's old racket (he now uses the GT). At 100 sq. in., it's a little larger than my Prince Graphite 90 (1985 model). First, I believe the strings on it aren't the best and somewhat worn and the grip was a little too big. It didn't bite when I put a lot of topspin, so many balls went long. I can generate a lot of topspin or hit through the ball, but did not have confidence off the forehand or backhand. The racket was very good at backhand slices and volleys. I served well with this, but not as accurate as other rackets. As an advance player, my most important criteria is how the ball "FEELS" after contact...can I sense exactly where I'm hitting to and what the trajectory is? Can I tell how hard I've hit it? I found that I had some control issues and could not feel the sweet spot consistently (which I determined that it was a little lower towards the throat). This is well balanced and feels light. The power is there, but you have to generate a lot of topspin to keep balls in. The vibration dampening system felt good on off-center hits. I like the head size-not to big. I believe you have to be a hard hitter to really take advantage of this racket's power. Keeping balls in the court is the only problem. Shots feel solid, but sometimes "hollow" feeling, without good feedback (it could be bad strings, which I think is the cause). The heavily engineered frame could also be the reason for the lack of "FEEL". It is suppose to eliminate bad vibrations, which I think can produce an over-engineered racket. This seems to be a fairly stiff racket, not for beginners-it's a little intimidating. Yes, the frame DOES generate power, but you have to have a solid swing to hit winners! At the net, this is a very solid volleying racket...gave me a lot of confidence hitting the sweet spot (I was very surprise at how capable it is for tricky volleys and overheads. Of course, I'd have to play with this racket several more times to figure out the subtle characteristics and dial in the sweet spot. Overall, a very capable weapon for intermediates and advanced players with power and topspin two-hand backhands. Good if you have a looping swing like Nadal. It's too much racket for beginners who need a more forgiving stick. Not too exited about the graphics. It's said that Babolat's grips are a little bigger than other brands, so make sure to demo the correct grip size! If in doubt, go a size smaller and use overgrip wrap or your hand will get fatigued.
Great all-around racquet July 26, 2006 Christine M. Rivera (Menlo Park,CA USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This racquet is great for intermediate players who are looking for power and control. Although it is a bit heavier then normal racquets, it really doesn't matter unless you dont have alot of strength. I recommend using Babolat custom hybrid strings which is the Pro Hurricane half-set and Vs half-set. I'm very pleased with this racquet and im sure you'll be pleased too!
